About Me
I began playing music at the age of 18. I received a degree in Education with an emphasis on Music at UT at Austin. Furthermore, I worked as a music teacher at an NISD campus, which had a tremendously positive impact on me as a music educator. I am self taught on both guitar and piano. I know the fundamentals of music theory. However, as a player and instructor I focus on feeling and passion not technique or notes. Feeling is what drives the burning passion for a student who just has to know how to get an instrument to sing for him or her. I'm a huge fan of blues, jazz, folk, rock, and other genres as well. The blues, specifically SRV is my biggest hero and influence. A passion for music can literally save a person's life.

What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons:
Beginner - Intermediate
Piano students will learn two-and three-black key groups, discuss pitch and begin learning about dynamics. Specifically, students learn and practice playing loud, known as forte, and soft, which is referred to as piano.
What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons:
Beginner - Intermediate
Beginner Piano-My students will learn how good posture and hand position. They will also learn finger numbers and which keys they are assigned to.
Formal Education:
I received a degree from the University of TX. at Austin in 2001. I studied education with an emphasis on music. I can teach beginners and intermediate the fundamentals of music theory and reading music, but that's not my approach. I'm about the burning passion to get your instrument singing.
Private Education:
Beginner guitar-My students will learn each string and how to tune their guitar. My students will learn their notes, scales and chords. My students will learn the fundamentals of jamming and playing a song.
Performing Experience:
Destiny Church Sunday mass. Rock band in Austin, Texas in the early 90's.
Experience Teaching:
I taught music at Kallison Elementary in 2020. I've been a classroom teacher for over 17 years and always incorporated music into my instruction.

Matt is very accommodating, very kind, and patient with my kiddo. I cannot wait for my other kids to take lessons. They are already excited because they see how much fun he can be as well as how easy he makes learning for them. I definitely recommend Matt.

Matthew has been very patient and accommodating during the lessons for my 6yo daughter. She has been having a good time learning to play and I have already noticed a big improvement in her skills.

Matthew is super dedicated and open to teaching aligned with your pace and goals! He is professional and prepared! I absolutely recommend him, you wont be disappointed! In just one week I was able to learn two different songs thanks to his preparation of simplified versions.
