Muisc Lessons in Seattle
After enjoying seasons of Big Band and Dance music prevalence throughout most of the 20th century, Seattle’s true music scene emerged: counter culture. The popular music of Seattle throughout the late 20th century ran against the grain of musical standards of the day. A thriving punk scene in the 1970s led to emerging hardcore and metal factions starting in the ‘80s. While these genres remain in the Seattle music scene today, their largest contribution to Seattle is a style born from their combination: Grunge. Popularized by bands Soundgarden and Nirvana, grunge has a unique vibe that sets Seattle apart. While grunge is alive in Seattle, the current king of counter-culture music is alternative and indie rock, which is also born from its musical ancestors and siblings. Well-known acts from Seattle include Jimi Hendrix, Foo Fighters, Death Cab for Cutie, Alice in Chains, Modest Mouse, Queensryche, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Kenny G, Melvins, and Quincy Jones, as well as a great number of highly-talented but unsung musicians, many of which offer various music lessons through TR Music. Seattle’s unique culture nurtures a community that benefits from music lessons, continuing the trend in counter-cultural music and the embracing of fun.
